Lome (Togo)

According to the ICC Live Piracy Map from 2012 there were five actual attacks and eight attempted attacks off the coast of Togolese port city Lome in 2012.One of the most high profile of these attacks took place at the end of August when a Greek-own
ed oil tanker, which had been anchored 17 nautical miles off the coast of Togo. There were 24 crewmembers aboard. The Togolese navy was alerted but despite having a shootout with the pirates they were unable to catch the tanker. The tanker was eventually found sailing off the coast of Nigeria.
